Whoosh whoosh... that's the sound of the police...

Or that's the sound they would make if they were rocking about in a meat wagon with a flame thrower stuck on it!

Hello again you wonderful people!

So with the initial rounds of our heralds of ruin campaign around the corner I have put some brush time in on my force to make sure it's all painted...

Although in the heralds of ruin campaign rules your not allowed to start with vehicles until you have bought a vehicle hanger, the guys (whether they know it or not) have kindly let the local constables have the comfort of riding around in there favourite repressor tank.... after all... you can't expect the poor souls to walk the beat around an entire planet!

So.... I have decided to use a third party miniature for this. The tank you are about to see is from a company called Ramshackle games and is called a Rhebok Apc. The model comes with a fair few options of weaponry and you can choose whether to have it as a tracked vehicle or wheeled, of which I chose the later. You can also choose from bull bars or a 'perp plow' (just made that up) again of which I chose the later. These options are all available, you just tell them which bits you would like and boom.... it's yours.

Anyways... you should check them out and see if anything takes your fancy....

So with a few modifications to the base model I have equipped this Rhebok Repressor tank with a few workshop specific weapons. The heavy flamer turret is a standard component from the manufacturer, I have however added a heavy bolter to the hull mount (which is not actually an option for the repressor) so I can use it as a chimera for my guard army and also a storm bolter to the turret... which is an option.

Below are some pictures of my efforts.... let me know what you think.

And thanks for reading :-)

The First Patrol

Hello again,

Didn't expect you back so soon....

So here is some progress on the initial force of Adeptus Arbites, which consist so far of a Judge and nine Arbites. Six of the Adeptus are armed with shotguns and three are ready to purge the perps with flamers.... plus the Judge (whose name has been erased for the safety of his loving family).

These boys and girls form the backbone of the local precinct and often go on patrol to keep the streets safe for you citizen!!.

They will soon be joined by a repressor tank to get them safely to where they need to be. (most times) so they can mete out the Emperors Justice.... with the first official engagement around the corner I have some brush work yet to do... anyways.... check out the Arbites so far...

Warhammer is not just for Christmas!

My name is John..... and I have a problem.

With Heretics and xenos who do not walk in the Emperors light!!!.

It all started for me when I was very young when my brother took me to Games workshop Luton.... so many toys!!! I fell in love and it has endured to this day.

Some of my first models were the Disciples of the Red redemption and some second hand RTB01 marines painted as Dark angels.... the former getting decimated by some ruthless beastmen jumping over a hedge and spanking the poor cultists to death (which made me cry.... literally) and the later getting decimated by 3 to 38 layers of paint...

But now I'm older and much less wise.... and so the crusade continues.

So with this instalment of my gaming career I have been invited to play in the basement gaming clubs Heralds of Ruin campaign, which is shaping up to be a fun little adventure with like minded thematic gamers.

My force will be bringing the Light and Law of the emperor to Medea in the form of the Adeptus Arbites.

These are simple conversions that will start me on the way to glory.... check them out.

Feral Ogryns: Progress So Far

Hi All,

After faffing around trying to decide on a force, switching between Renegades and Heretics (too many bodies) and Legion (too many rules) I decided to finally settle on Ogryns. The list available, though accurate to fluff, lacked options and didn't really feel up to scratch, so I did what I always do: make it up as I go along!

A few minor changes have been implemented, such as allowing Leaders more weapon options (close combat only, befitting my own narrative) and changing istances of "Power Maul" on the Bullgryn Champion and Bullgryns to "Power Weapons". The story is going to involve the Ogryns siding with the forces of Chaos, so look forward to that!

I'll show the models in more detail when painted, but here is my initial 250 point force.

Here they are in full: a pair of Bullgryns with Slab Shields and Grenadier Gauntlets, a Bullgryn Leader with Power Axe, a Gun Lugger with Autocannon and an Ogryn Hound (or "Dogryns", as we seem to have taken to calling them).

The Bullgryns have been converted from a variety of parts, starting with a base of Ogre Kingdoms and using the blunderbuss pistol and leg plate guards from the Beastclaw Raiders Mournfang Pack (donated by my bitz dealer, Paolo Trepiccione). They are armoured in a variety of bitz from all over, primarily Killa Kans but there's a lot more there.

The Bullgryn Leader started with a 40K Ogryn fitted out as a Bullgryn. The arms and power weapon are Ogre Kingdoms, but from there i'll let you play a game of 'Spot the Bit', there's a lot going on. The Gun Lugger is also an Ogryn, with a custom Autocannon I will cover at a later date and a trophy pack covered in heads from aeons (and campaigns) past. The Dogryn is a Hound Of Xaphan from Forge World, currently on a temporary base until fitted with a larger Cavalry one.

For today, that's it! We have played a few practice games (four so far, ALL of which were lost, much to my genuine enjoyment). I'm planning to get them painted up for our first real games on the 25th (three weeks from this post), during which plenty of photos will be taken and a battle report written up. Look forward to that, and until then, happy gaming!

HoR - The Salamanders step forth

Hello! I'm David, and I'm one of the people playing in the upcoming Heralds of Ruin campaign.

A little about me, I got into 40k about 18 months ago as the Basement Gaming Club ran an escalation league that started at 250 points and was planned to go all the way to 1500 over the course of 6 months, this eventually didn't end up happening as expected as life took its toll and a few of the players had to drop out. But it did get me into the hobby and my wallet has hated me since.

I started with Space Marines after wanting something easier as my first army and when I asked about the chapters I had brief descriptions of the various ones with the Salamanders fiercely sticking in my mind, and after a few months of research and model buying I had a small force of them. Fast forward to now and I have 3500 points of marines 2000 of Necrons and visions of many many more in the future.

For the campaign I will be playing as the Salamanders, and will attempt to purge Medea of the Chaos and Xenos threat. We talked a lot during our introductory meeting about sticking with the fluff and it's something that the 4 of us do want to do to the best of our ability.

One thing that this campaign does for me that it wont do to such an extent for the others is encourages us to paint, I love the building and playing parts of the hobby but my hands aren't the steadiest and my hand-eye coordination isn't the best so painting never grabbed me as much as the other parts of the hobby did. I am going to try and have, by the last game of our campaign, all of the models of my force painted to a standard where I am proud of them.

That's it for me for now and I'll see you when the fighting has begun.

A New Beginning

Hi everyone,

A few of us at the Basement Gaming Club are currently undergoing planning for a Heralds of Ruin campaign starting next month. Before we start, we'll have some introductory posts for all the members to explain a little about ourselves, our choices of teams and how we plan to destroy all opposition and have fun while doing it!

I'll start with a confession; It’s official, I have been in this hobby a long time. One my earliest memories is of one of my brothers friends coming over when I was sitting and rolling dice, with no idea what I was doing, “playing” 2nd edition 40K. This was a time when GW just wanted to make a good game, and releasing a box set with a cardboard Ork Dred, not even officially a Deff Dread yet, was perfectly fine because it improved your experience of the game. They were great times. They weren’t even slightly trying with Fantasy to not be ripping off Tolkien, and as seen below Tyranids were a lot, lot closer to their source material.

The first models I inherited solely for myself was a gang of House Escher that I very much wish I still had now. I, of course, messed them right up but spent hours painting them with little to no clue of how the game worked but being six at the time just staring into the White Dwarf magazines, almost every copy from about WD135, made me want to be part of it.

The first box set that was ever bought for me was the below box of skeleton warriors, quite unusual at the time as they were a multi part plastic box set, not something many armies had. I almost definitely bought them because of my love for Jason And The Argonauts as a child and beyond that fact have almost no memories of them. They soon became part of an Undead army lead by the truly epic Isabella and Vlad Von Carstein that I equally have very little memory of.

The next few years are blurry, I went to a lot of mini campaigns and visited Games Workshop Bedford every Sunday for about 6 years, working my way from Undead to Orcs to Space Marines and joining in with the Armageddon campaign and hearing truly epic stories about all sorts of historic events including the Horus Heresy.

When I moved at about 12 my interest waned for a short while but a friend and me soon got into 40K, going to the loft of a local pub weekly to play but I honestly can’t even remember what army I played. I was really just in it to make friends and have fun, and that I did. I think it was Space Marines, but even with all the memories flashing back now it’s very unclear.

When I was thirteen we moved back to Bedfordshire and upon going to Redborne Upper School where new friends were made (Ghost, Ross and Murphy, that’s you!) it turned out people were playing 40K and Blood Bowl but apart from going along after school to hang out and tell stories of the old days (and collecting a Grey Knights army mostly for my own amusement) it did not really re-enter my life until I was a strapping young Junior Soldier training at Harrogate Army Foundation College. My Sergeant asked for a guide to be made for different types of cover in the field, so I put my scenery making skills into building a hilled valley with a river and decided to put together a unit of Cadians, a fun little jaunt that reminded me how much I liked it.

Upon leaving at nineteen and after a nightmarish more than a year of moving, heartbreak and shitty jobs I was roughly back on my feet and decided that I would join in with a few friends with a Blood Bowl league, just buying the one box and having some fun. The Bjornlinger Ravens were born, still my favourite team (Norse rule) and a team I play to this day, the infamous Toki tearing prized players up with great notoriety.

Quite quickly I wanted to get back into the hobby proper and decided Fantasy was for me. About two weeks later I got down to playing a proper game (sorry, Fantasy fans) and started collecting Chaos Space Marines. I was initially attracted because every classic picture looked like a Heavy Metal album cover and the rules were quite new as the Codex has just come out. The army having Dinobots and Zombies helped too.

The rest is kind of history, I sit here a few metres from more than 20,000 points of ten different armies and my interest is still firmly in place and looking to the future. Games Workshop has been absolutely killing it for the last 18 months and I hope they carry on, everything since the introduction of Skitarii has been hit after hit and just seems to keep getting better. The rules may not be the tightest but every game started is unique and fun, and hey, just over the hill seems to be a new edition, we'll see! I’ve never played anything quite like it (not for a want of trying), so may it live a long life with many more fun games in the future!

For the Heralds of Ruin campaign I flitted between a few forces for quite some time, initially thinking Legion or Renegades and Heretics (we play a good amount of Horus Heresy games) before settling on Tyranids. Story, however, is King, and after our first meeting to discuss forces there was some difficulty to reconcile why Tyranids were on our planet of Medea VI. The latest Rules and Team List update on the Heralds of Ruin Website (found here) gave me a chance to re-check the available forces and Ogryns took my fancy. My imagination ran wild and that was that; my team is now a roving gang of Feral Ogryns, ripe for adaptation across the campaign. Who knows, they may even be tempted to ally...

Thank you for making it through my ramble down memory lane, look forward to (probably shorter!) posts from the other three members related to the Return to Medea HoR Campaign. Feel free to comment below with any suggestions, and I'll be back before long with the beginning of my force!
